Lights on the Hudson

4th of July fireworks from 26th street were wonderful. There were hundreds of boats in the Hudson lined up to see the fireworks as well. The East River was nice in the past; however, I vote that the Hudson becomes the new official venue.

Barcelona

Thanks to Delta, we had an extra day in Barcelona and got to see this. Thank you Delta. (well, I suppose the British Airways strike is really to be thanked)

Montjuic Communications Tower - Barcelona, Spain

This telecommunications tower was designed by my favorite architect, Santiago Calatrava, for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

Hudson River Valley

Really loved this road trip. I imagine Long Island/The Hamptons were madness on Memorial Day. North of NYC however was absolutely wonderful and there weren't that many people around either.

Gazebo - Sunnyside and Lyndhurst

Saw both of these on Memorial Day. The one on the left is at Washington Irving's Sunnyside estate. The second is at the rose garden on the Lyndhurst estate.

Glad we visited early in the year. The humidity switch has been turned on in NY.

Red Iguana

Really really loving this camera.

Want some "killer mexican food?" Go to Red Iguana in SLC, Utah. It is simply the best.

Spain 9: Ciudad de Artes y Ciencias Valencia

“You are only bound in terms of the limits you set.”
Santiago Calatrava

Ever since I was introduced to Santiago Calatrava's architecture a few years ago I have been scheming different plans to get to Valencia to see the "Ciudad de Artes y Ciencias." When this opportunity came up I was thrilled. The train ride from Barcelona to Valencia was especially amazing right before then end when the buildings of the City of Arts and Sciences popped up above the horizon.

This whole architectural complex is like nothing else.

Spain 7: Valencia Sunset

My brother Matt and I were walking around Valencia our first evening (after being up for over 24 hours) when we saw a cathedral and chose to go inside. As we were exciting we saw a little bit of light coming from a stairwell. We got closer and saw there was a booth to pay 2 Euro in order to climb to the top of the cathedral. We got to the top right as the sun was setting. It had been cloudy all day and we had no idea the sun would be peeking out at all.

Spain 4: Tree in Valencia

We walked around Valencia quite a bit. It is a beautiful city and was a great city for exploring on foot. The subway system doesn't even go into the old part of town.

She said YES!!!

Last night around 10pm I asked Liz to marry me...and she said YES! We are both very excited to get married this fall!

I took the picture below back in October last year right after we met. A bunch of people from NYC went up to Rhode Island for a weekend. Liz and I had briefly met a couple nights prior to the trip at a friend's comedy show, but didn't really talk much that night.

I was down at a little lake taking some photos with some friends and Liz came down and we all started talking. We talked more that weekend and the day after we got home I asked her out and ever since then we have been dating.

Back when we first started dating, Liz had mentioned that she really liked canned peaches. One night I bought her a bunch of them as a surprise. Later that night I was told that one of her roommates said "If you are still dating when all those peaches are gone, you will get married." (I guess I bought A LOT of peaches).

Last week when I got back into town from some work Liz told me about what her roommate had said months ago about the peaches and that there were only TWO slices left in the last jar.

We got engaged at the Clinton Street Baking Co. which is a favorite and meaningful place for both of us. I went early to dinner and took the last jar with the remaining two slices of peaches. The restaurant staff was on board with the plan and at the appropriate time brought out the last peaches (garnished nicely) and Liz immediately started laughing and knew exactly what was going on.

I got down on one knee, got the ring out, and asked her to marry me. Then I heard the best thing ever, she said "YES!"

Liz, I Love you! I am so grateful we met and am excited to get married!!!

*I want to thank Liz's great roommates and the people at Clinton Street Baking Co. for all of their help in orchestrating everything last night!

Spain 1: Barcelona Airport

I thought it appropriate to start the week of Spain posting with the first image I took when we landed.

My brother Matt and I went to Spain for a week last month (plus an extra day thanks to Delta). We spent our time in Valencia and Barcelona. We saw amazing architecture, some wonderful art, and enjoyed everything we came across. Other than planning places to stay and buying train tickets we discovered things as we came across them (one of my favorite ways to travel).

Thank You Delta

When an airline says they are overbooked and they want to give you a very valuable travel voucher and pay your hotel and food for one more day, you say "thank you." Then you leave the airport to take more photos.

Delta, thank you.

Spain posts coming for at least the entire next week!
